General history

Most of our historical sources are contemporaneous — written at the time about the times. If you are unfamiliar with Latvia and the Baltics, we suggest some general reading first. Prof. Arveds Švābe's Story of Latvia spans the Ice Age to the end of WWII and the first years of the post-war Soviet occupation. For a quicker read, the Latvian Foreign Ministry's Brief History provides the essentials.
